A Lincoln County couple were charged with aggravated trafficking in heroin after drug enforcement agents stopped their car Thursday night and discovered $72,000 in heroin.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency stopped a car being driven by Nicholas Buscanera, 21, of Westport, and Stephanie Little, 28, of Edgecomb, as part of an investigation into the importation of heroin in Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties. Agents learned the two were going out of state Thursday to obtain heroin, according to a news release by the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Late Thursday night, Sagadahoc County sheriff’s deputies stopped their car along Route 1 in Woolwich at the request of MDEA.

A search of the car uncovered two bags that contained 72 grams of heroin, the equivalent of 2,880 individual doses, police said.

Buscanera and Little were taken to Two Bridges Jail, with bail set at $5,000 each.

The two were due to appear in court Friday afternoon.

Assisting MDEA in this investigation were Bath police and the Lincoln and Sagadahoc county sheriffs’ offices.
