PITTSFIELD — The Sebasticook Valley Elks Lodge recently sponsored Family Literacy Night at Manson Park School, thanks to a $2,000 Elks National Foundation Gratitude Grant.

The lodge helped plan and implement an evening of literacy experiences for all pre-K and kindergarten students and families. Several classrooms were made available for parents to learn more about the five components of reading: phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

The grant paid for a free book for each of the 120 children, educational materials, snacks and door prizes.

The Sebasticook Valley Lodge earned the grant because total member contributions to the Elks National Foundation exceeded an average $4.60 per member.
