My wife and I attended the Richmond town meeting at Marcia Buker School on June 3. What we witnessed there is all too common in this day and age, regardless of whether one is talking about federal, state or local governments.

Officials seem to think that taxpayers have an unending supply of money to turn over to them. Their arrogance toward us isn’t even masked. They defend their money increases with excuse after excuse and say that we taxpayers should be grateful for them and all their Monday holidays, four-day work weeks etc., etc.

Richmond has some fine employees who work hard, but with five full-time police officers and a town manager that earns $68,000, we simply can’t afford it anymore. The value of our property goes down, but the valuation goes up to support an ever-increasing budget with no regard whatsoever for the people footing the bill.

It is time to stop the madness.
