Two local athletes earned top-five finishes at the New England outdoor track and field championships Saturday in Bridgewater, Mass.

Waterville’s Rachel Bergeron placed fourth in the girls discus and 10th in the shot put, while Erskine’s Jade Canak was fifth in the girls triple jump and 14th in the long jump. Complete results can be found here.

Maranacook’s Kelby Mace, who said he had thought about not going to New Englands because he wasn’t sure he’d be competitive, also had a solid day, placing eighth in the boys long jump and ninth in the triple jump.

Three local athletes placed in the finals of the girls pole vault. Waterville’s Sarah Shoulta was 19th while Messalonskee’s Taylor Lenentine and Skowhegan’s Noah Stevens tied for 26th.

Also in girls events, Messalonskee’s Kaitlin Eschenbrenner took 12th in the javelin. Her teammate Amanda Knight was 18th in the 400 and 28th in the 200. Winthrop’s Rachel Ingram was 24th in the triple jump and 27th in the long jump. Emma Pluntke of Carrabec took 21st in the shot put. Jaycee Cushman of Skowhegan placed 27th in the 200, Lawrence’s Sydney Emery was 30th in the discus, and the Erskine 4×100 relay team of Canak, Jordan Jowett, Abby Haskell and Christina Belanger came in 21st.

On the boys side, Maine Central Institute’s Shane Hathaway was 20th in the long jump and 21st in the 300 hurdles. Also from MCI, Eric Hathaway earned 15th in the javelin and Caurtis McLeod was 21st in the shot put. Monmouth’s Marques Houston placed in two events, taking 14th in the 400 and 30th in the 200. Mt. Blue’s Nate Pratt-Holt took 14th in the triple jump, Messalonskee’s Damen Bickford finished 19th in the shot put, and Madison’s Ron Helderman came in 34th in the pole vault.
