AUGUSTA — Joe and Arlene McVety have announced the engagement of their son, Jake, to Helen (Hailun) Xia, of China, daughter of Samuel and Hazel Xia (Xia Weiqing and Zhao Haiming).

Jake is a graduate of Cony High School and Campbell University. Jake and Helen met at Campbell University, where they studied PGA golf management. Jake graduated with a master’s in business administration and a bachelor’s of business administration in PGA golf management. Helen graduated with majors in marketing and business administration.

Helen is currently working as a marketing assistant and is planning on attending graduate school for marketing. Jake is employed by Up to Par Management Inc. and head pro at Sanford Country Club.

A July 5, 2014, wedding is planned.
