CHINA — Sean Stewart of Boy Scout Troop 479 recently celebrated attaining the rank of Eagle Scout at a ceremony at the China Baptist Church. Friends, family members, elected officials and other scouts gathered to celebrate Stewart’s rank advancement.

The call to order to open the Eagle Court of Honor was made by Chuck Mahaleris, Kennebec District chairperson. Participating in the ceremony were Scouts Daniel Brown, Joshua Silvesan, Camrin Portela, Angelo Sacks, Tucker Leonard, Daniel Constanzer, Jeffery Kierstead, Chris Morr, Joe Morry, Misha Littlefield, Joey Gay, Alex Stewart, Tucker Leonard, Casey Bancroft and Madison Bodine; the Rev. Ron Morrell; Scout Leader Kelly Pillsbury; Scoutmaster Scott Adams; Assistant Scoutmaster Matt Bodine; and Advance Chairperson Ron Emery. Stewart presented the Eagle Scout mentor pin to Emery.

Adams made remarks about Stewart’s years in the Troop. The Eagle badge was presented to Stewart’s mother, Kristina Stewart, to pin on his uniform, and a miniature Eagle badge was given to Stewart to pin on his mother in recognition of her love, encouragement, faith, and trust in his future. Stewart pinned an Eagle tie bar on his father, Greg Stewart, in recognition of his wisdom and guidance. An Eagle neckerchief was given to his mother and father to place around their son’s neck.

Stewart received a gift from the Troop Committee, the book “Legacy of Honor: The Values and Influence of America’s Eagle Scouts” by Alvin Townley. His parents shared a video clip: “Sean’s Journey — Trail to Eagle.”

Special guests included Sen. Roger Katz and Rep. David Cotta, who presented legislative sentiments, and Daniel L’Heureux, China’s town manager.

Stewart’s Eagle Scout project was to build a covered sandbox for the children at the Waterville Homeless Shelter. Because trains run on either side of the shelter, Stewart designed the covered sandbox to match the decor of a train station. He received assistance from family, friends and Scouts in his troop. Doug Cutchins, a board member of the Waterville shelter, came to the ceremony to express thanks.

Stewart is a 2014 graduate of Cony High School in Augusta.
