Legionnaires from American Legion Post 181 in Litchfield recently held a Flag Day ceremony with kindergarten-fifth grade students at Carrie Ricker School in Litchfield. Children sang, read and paraded around the gymnasium as they honored the American flag. Boy Scouts from Sabattus cut retired flags into strips and laid them on the arms of veterans from Legion Posts 181 in Litchfield and 135 in Sabattus. The students identified each state that was represented by the stripes of the flag as the Boy Scouts cut them. The third grade class described the history of each section of the Pledge of Allegiance as they recited it. The students also sang patriotic songs including “God Bless America,” “Proud To Be An American,” and the “Star Spangled Banner.” The celebration was organized by teacher Diane Whalen.
