Richmond man charged with stealing repellent

A Richmond man was charged after allegedly stealing bug repellent from a Main Street store.

The theft was reported around 6 p.m. on June 11 after 32-year-old Travis Crowley reportedly stole a bottle of bug spray from Pierce’s Country Store. Richmond Police Chief Scott MacMaster said security cameras at the store captured the theft, which ultimately led officers to call Crowley to ask him to return to the store with the bottle. Crowley returned and paid the $8 for the bug repellent.

“While reviewing video with Travis, the officer confirmed he was operating a motor vehicle,” MacMaster said. “He was in fact suspended.”

Police charged Crowley with theft and operating after suspension.

TV volume fracas spurs police call

A Richmond woman was displeased with police response when she asked officers to settle a dispute between her sons about the television volume.

Richmond Police Chief Scott MacMaster said the woman, who was not charged, called police a little before 4 p.m. on June 12 to ask officers to tell her adult son to turn down the television at their Gardiner Street home. The caller told police the noise was bothering her other son, MacMaster said. The woman said she was at work and unable to mediate the dispute. She asked the officer to lie and say a neighbor had complained about the noise so the adult son would turn down the volume.

The officer explained he could not lie about a complaint and said he would not be able to help resolve the civil complaint, at which point, MacMaster said, the woman called the officer a name and hung up.
