A Skowhegan man remains hospitalized after his motorcycle collided with a deer on Main Street in Ripley.

Linwood C. Willey, 54, was traveling towards Dexter on Main Street when a deer ran in front of his motorcycle at around 5:30 a.m. Monday, said Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

The motorcycle struck the deer and Willey lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle. Lancaster said the force of the impact when he hit the ground caused Willey’s helmet to crack.

Neither speed or alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash.

Willey was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. The hospital is not releasing information on his condition, said Lancaster.
