Police charge driver trying to impress friends

FARMINGTON — An Oak Street man was arrested on three misdemeanor charges and given an additional five traffic citations for reportedly speeding past an officer while intoxicated and refusing to stop early Sunday.

Around 1 a.m., David Labbe, 25, drove past Farmington Police Officer Derrick Doucette on Main Street going 65 mph in a 25 mph zone, according to the officer’s police report.

Farmington Police Secretary Rachel Heseltine said Labbe did not stop when Doucette tried to pull him over and instead turned on Bridge Street, then down Town Farm Road and pulled over into his driveway on Oak Street.

Heseltine said he was reported to have turned off his lights to try to hide from the officer, but was quickly found. Doucette reported there were passengers in the car, but they had fled by the time Doucette arrived and he could not find them.

The driver “stated he was trying to impress his friends,” said Heseltine. He was arrested and taken to the Franklin County jail on charges of failure to stop for an officer, criminal speed, operating under the influence and five additional traffic violations.
