I listen with great interest to Susan Collins’ political ads touting her fine work bringing ship building contracts to Bath Iron Works. I am sure these jobs are invaluable to Maine’s economy.
But how do we fix Washington’s out-of-control spending when voters in each of the 50 states are electing/re-electing senators and representatives based, in large part, on the valuable “pork” they bring back to their home state. All the while, they decry excessive spending generated by “pork harvesting” by senators and representatives from the other 49 states? Who knows what kinds of deals are made at the “feed trough”? Is the Washington depicted in the Netflix series “House of Cards” painfully close to the true Washington?
