Police have identified a North Berwick man who was fatally struck by a Downeaster train Wednesday night, and said he intended to commit suicide.

North Berwick Police Chief Stephen Peasley identified the man as Paul Voisine, 43.

Police determined Voisine deliberately stepped into the path of the train, based on interviews with witnesses and a note Voisine apparently posted to his Facebook page indicating he intended to commit suicide.

“The act was carried out quite similar to the way it was described on there,” Peasley said.
