An Avon man was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault after, police say, he attacked a woman Tuesday evening.

Police received a report of the assault from friends of the alleged victim around 4:30 p.m., according to Lt. David Rackliffe of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

Rackliffe said after investigating, deputies learned Frank G. Moody Sr, 55, was having disputes with a woman he had a prior relationship with and escalated into assaulting her.

He said deputies believe Moody physically assaulted the woman and choked her.

Moody was arrested by Deputy Andrew Morgan on a charge of class B aggravated assault, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
