FAIRFIELD FIRE CAUSE ELECTRICAL

A fire that damaged a three-unit apartment building on Main Street Tuesday afternoon is believed to have been caused by an electrical problem, according to Fire Chief Duane Bickford.

The fire at 247 Main St. was reported at 1:47 p.m. and brought firefighters from Fairfield, Waterville and Winslow to the scene. It also temporarily closed a section of U.S. Route 201 through downtown Fairfield.

There were no injuries reported and the damage was confined to the attic and kitchen ceiling in one apartment, said Bickford. The building belongs to Linda Thorpe. Bickford said he was unsure whether she was insured.

DRIVER FALLS ASLEEP, IS INJURED

An 84-year-old woman was taken to the hospital Monday with a possible concussion after police say she fell asleep while driving and rolled her car over.

Dorothy Oregan, of Bowie, Md., was driving north on Route 4, Main Street, in the northern Franklin County community of Sandy River Plantation when she fell asleep around 10:20 a.m., said Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols.

Nichols said when she fell asleep, her car swerved, drove into a ditch and rolled over.

The 2008 Ford Escape was towed from the scene. The woman was the only occupant in the car and was taken by Northstar ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, said Nichols.
