FAIRFIELD FIRE CAUSE ELECTRICAL

A fire that damaged a three-unit apartment building on Main Street Tuesday afternoon is believed to have been caused by an electrical problem, according to Fire Chief Duane Bickford.

The fire at 247 Main St. was reported at 1:47 p.m. and brought firefighters from Fairfield, Waterville and Winslow to the scene. It also temporarily closed a section of U.S. Route 201 through downtown Fairfield.

There were no injuries reported and the damage was confined to the attic and kitchen ceiling in one apartment, said Bickford. The building belongs to Linda Thorpe. Bickford said he was unsure whether she was insured.
