A Kingfield man was arrested early Friday after police say he broke into an acquaintance’s apartment, assaulted him and left.

Martin Clarrage, 22, was arrested after a Kingfield man called 911 about 1:30 a.m. and reported that Clarrage had assaulted him in the caller’s Main Street apartment, said Lt. David St. Laurent of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

St. Laurent said Clarrage may be charged with assault after the case is reviewed by prosecutors.

St. Laurent said that Deputy Nicholas Zecher interviewed the alleged victim along with other witnesses in the apartment and found Clarrage soon after in a nearby apartment.

Clarrage was arrested on charges of burglary, criminal mischief and violating a condition of release from a previous crime.

The charge of criminal mischief was filed because Clarrage was reported to have damaged the victim’s door and punched a wall in the hallway of the apartment building, St. Laurent said.

St. Laurent said the alleged assault appears have started over a disagreement Clarrage had with the victim involving another person, whom he did not identify.

A second person who could be charged as an accomplice in the case. Police said the other person was aware of the alleged crimes being committed, but did not attempt to stop it.
