Two Franklin County men were charged with choking someone in unrelated reports of felony domestic violence assaults.

A 19-year-old New Sharon man and a 25-year-old Chesterville man were each arrested on charges of domestic violence aggravated assault within a day of each other, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols said.

The Chesterville man was arrested Monday after, according to Nichols, he attacked his father and choked him.

Everard Cooper, 25, was reported to have been arguing with his father in his Cooper Road home, when his father tried to leave to go to his room.

Nichols said Cooper was alleged to have then choked his father, who then reported the incident to police. Cooper was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Jail on the class B felony charge.

Then early Tuesday morning, a New Sharon man was arrested after he allegedly choked his girlfriend, Nichols said.

Jeffrey Lane, 19, was reported to have had an argument with his girlfriend in their Main Street home, which escalated to him grabbing her in a choke hold.

The girlfriend’s parents picked her up from the home along with the couple’s 8-month old child and called the police to report the alleged assault at 3:21 a.m., Nichols said.

Nichols said Deputy Andrew Morgan arrested Lane on the class B charge and he was taken to the Franklin County Jail.

Domestic violence aggravated assault is a class B crime. If found guilty, both men could face up to 10 years of incarceration and a $20,000 fine.
