WINSLOW — A Morril Road woman accidentally shot her husband in the arm Saturday night, police said.

Jane Marie Aucoin-Labreque, 53, called 911 at 10:27 p.m. Saturday to report that she accidentally shot her husband, Paul Labreque, 55, in the arm with a handgun, according to Winslow Police Chief Shawn O’Leary.

Officers arrived to find the woman distraught and her husband sitting in a chair with a single gunshot wound to his elbow.

Paul Labreque was taken to the Thayer Center for Health in Waterville with non-life threatening injuries and has since been treated and released, according to a hospital spokesperson.

O’Leary wouldn’t say who the gun belonged to because the investigation was still in progress, but he did say the shooting appeared to have been accidental.

“Through the course of some interviews, we believe the shooting is accidental,” O’Leary said Sunday afternoon. “But we want to make sure we have all the facts. The husband still has to be interviewed and he’s in the hospital.”

O’Leary said that in the coming days, police should have more information regarding whether the shooting was an accident.

Responding to the shooting were Winslow police, Winslow Emergency Medical Services and Delta Ambulance.
