NEWPORT — A 5k in honor of Captain John Randall Brainard will start at 1 p.m. on Labor Day, Sept. 1, at the American Legion; rain or shine.
Preregistered runners, cost is $20 for adults, $15 for children. Those registering the day of the race, the cost is $25 for adults, $20 for children. To preregister, make checks payable to “5K for Jay” and mail to P. O. Box 62, East Newport.
A cookout after the race for runners and their families and friends is planned.
Proceeds will benefit those enrolled in ROTC or a military college.
