AUGUSTA — A patient was returned to Riverview Psychiatric Center Tuesday, a day after fleeing the hospital while out for a walk.
Jacob Donovan, 21, was found Tuesday morning in Richmond and returned to the hospital, Capitol Police Chief Russell Gauvin said. The patient was in good health.
Donovan is civilly committed to Riverview, meaning a court has ordered him to receive treatment but not in connection with any criminal charges.
Capitol Police, as well as Augusta police and Kennebec County sheriff’s deputies, spent much of Monday looking for Donovan after he fled the hospital grounds around 10:30 a.m. Gauvin said Donovan was out for a walk with a staff person when he ran away.
Gauvin said police conducted a search for Donovan because he was under a court order.
“There was no indication he was a danger to himself or others,” Gauvin said.
