A Winslow man was taken into protective custody after a report of domestic violence in Winslow.

Police said a woman reported at 1:03 p.m. that her estranged husband was “drinking, despondent and in possession of firearms” at 928 China Road.

Winslow police officers and Kennebec County deputies temporarily closed China Road because of the home’s proximity to the road.

Police used a loudspeaker to make contact with the man, whose name was not released, and he left the house without incident.

He was taken to Inland Hospital for a psychological evaluation, Winslow Police Chief Shawn O’Leary said in a statement released Friday afternoon.

“After further investigation it was determined that it was not a domestic violence incident but a mental health crisis situation. At this time, no charges are pending,” he said.
