I’ve been proud to serve in the Legislature with Rep. Stanley Short Jr., D-Pittsfield. It’s clear his top priority is making sure working class people have access to good job opportunities.

Too many Maine people are unemployed, underemployed or are having a tough time getting a better-paying job. And, to make matters worse, community college programs aimed at preparing students for more skilled, higher paying jobs often have long wait lists.

Short supported bipartisan legislation that reduced that backlog. This legislation also created a credit-transfer system between Maine’s universities and community colleges to help make it easier to get the degree or training Maine students need to succeed.

These are good steps to helping build Maine’s middle class, but there is more we’ve got to do. Short has fought tirelessly for jobs and working people. I have been honored to work with him.
