A Farmington woman was struck by a car while crossing the street early Monday.

Shirly Lorette, 77, was walking in crosswalk near the corner of High Street and Maple Avenue when her foot was run over, said Farmington Police Chief Jack Peck.

The 2002 Chrysler Sedan that ran over her foot was driven by Valerie Soucie, 62, of Wilton, who was driving north on High Street toward downtown Farmington.

Peck said a charge of failing to yield to a pedestrian is pending against Soucie. He said Soucie appears to have been trying to pass a second vehicle and did not see Lorette.

Peck said that after Lorette’s foot was run over she fell backwards and struck her head. He said she was evaluated at the scene and was taken to her doctor in a personal vehicle.

He said the accident was near the Farmington Fairgrounds, where the fair opened Sunday and runs until Saturday, but neither were in the area for the fair.
