AUGUSTA — Desiray A. Poulin, 23, of Waterville, was sentenced Friday to 16 months in jail, with all but 30 days suspended and two years probation, for stealing a cellphone on April 16, 2013, in Waterville.

Poulin had been convicted by a jury on Wednesday in Kennebec County Superior Court on a charge of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer. The trial lasted one day, and she was represented by attorney Paul Corey. Poulin was ordered to pay restitution of $157.49.

District Attorney Maeghan Maloney said the state asked for a longer sentence than that imposed because this was Poulin’s fifth theft conviction since 2010.
