Bruce Poliquin’s campaign for the 2nd Congressional District claims he would protect Social Security and Medicare. Luckily, he has a record to review not just TV commercials.

One of his ads claims he saved the pensions of teachers and state employees. His definition of saving is misguided. Fact, Treasurer Bruce Poliquin and Gov. Paul LePage wrote off $1.7 billion that was owed the pension plan (even as they paid the hospital debt). Then, to cover the undermining of the pension system, they cut future cost of living increases from this point forward, ensuring that retiree pensions would lose value over time. A simple refinancing of the debt was not considered.

I would not trust Poliquin to protect Social Security and Medicare, as his definition of saving would mean the loss of benefits for the most vulnerable of our citizens, the elderly.
