A teenager is facing criminal trespass charges after allegedly burglarizing about a half-dozen camps around Lakeview Drive and North Shore Drive in Smithfield, police said.
The 13-year-old boy, whose name is not being released by police because of his age, admitted to stealing loose change and a knife while breaking into six camps, according to a press release Monday from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.
The burglaries occurred during the day between Sept. 20 and Sept. 26, and the camps were either closed for the season or vacant, according to the release. The boy removed windowpanes or entered without force, according to the release, which also states that police believe the boy was “exploring.”
The boy was arrested on Thursday and has been released into the custody of his parents. The district attorney is reviewing the case and more charges may be possible, according to the release.
