AUGUSTA — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteers training for Kennebec and Waldo counties will be held Wednesdays, Nov. 12 through Dec. 17, and Feb. 25 through April 15, at Longfellow’s Greenhouse, 81 Puddledock Road, in Manchester. All sessions will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. The training will conclude with tours and a written exam in the spring.

Extension educators and industry experts provide more than 40 hours of research-based instruction in the art and science of horticulture. Students are trained to conduct sustainable horticulture projects in their communities. Program graduates become certified Master Gardener Volunteers after 40 hours of community-based service in horticulture projects for Kennebec or Waldo counties.

The cost of the training is $220 and limited scholarships are available. Completed applications are required by Oct. 22. More information and applications are available online umaine.edu/kennebec/resources/master-gardeners.
