The city recently made a difficult decision in how to deal with waste. Numerous political fliers have foolishly showcased it as a key issue in this year’s election, making it what seems to be the candidates’ defining political position.
As I understand it, the city was faced with increased tipping fees from the facilities that dispose of waste. This would have resulted in an increase in taxes to deal with our waste or a cut in city services, such as public safety, parks and recreation, or infrastructure.
Out of that decision, I get recycling, which everyone can agree is a good thing for the world, and I pay for trash like any other utility that I consume. I pay for just as much as I use.
I want to thank Dana Bushee for tackling a complex problem and turning it into a workable solution for the city. She has my vote in November.
