A car driven by a Florida man struck and killed a moose early Friday in an accident on Route 27 in Wyman Township.

Lt. David Rackliffe, of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, said the 48-year old Florida man, Jeffrey Peters, and his 71-year-old passenger, whose name was not listed in the report, were driving on Route 27 when their car struck the moose, which was found nearby dead in a ditch.

He said the two drove back to where they were staying, at Mountain View Motel in Stratton, and reported the accident. The 71-year old was taken to the hospital in a personal car.
