SKOWHEGAN — Police have charged a Skowhegan man with robbery and with stealing drugs in connection with a Wednesday afternoon robbery at the Rite Aid pharmacy on Madison Avenue.

Jason Mitchell Walsh, 32, was booked at the Somerset County Jail in East Madison early Thursday. He was taken into custody about an hour after the 3:06 p.m. robbery and is alleged to have given a pharmacy employee a note demanding drugs. The robbery was captured on surveillance video.

An intake worker at the jail said Walsh remained in custody Thursday morning. There is no court in Skowhegan Thursday, so Walsh will make his first appearance Friday at the earliest.

“A threat of force was used,” Police Chief Ted Blais said Wednesday. Blais did not specify. Walsh was identified from surveillance video and was found about a mile away from the pharmacy.

Police found Walsh at a house on Pleasant Street and took him back to the pharmacy, where he was searched and taken into custody.

“From the video, they were able to confirm the identity of who they thought it may have been and that’s what led us to that particular guy,” Blais said.

Blais said no weapon was shown during the robbery. Skowhegan police confirmed in a prepared statement Wednesday that some prescription drugs were taken.

State and Skowhegan police, Somerset County sheriff’s deputies and agents of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency responded to the robbery.
