AUGUSTA — An annual week-long food drive by the Maine Army National Guard and a local radio station kicks off Sunday.

The B98.5 Maine Army National Guard Tanksgiving drive runs through Nov. 7 at the tank just off Airport Road at Camp Keyes. The drive will be staffed by members of the Maine Army National Guard and B98.5 personality Randy McCoy, who will be at the tank all week, Mike Higgins of radio station WEBB said in a press release. Donations also will be collected at area grocery stores.

Higgins said that organizers are asking for non-perishable food to help people in the community.

“All the food donated to the Tanksgiving food drive stays right here in the community,” Higgins said.

This is the 14th annual Tanksgiving. Last year the effort raised about 6.5 tons of food.

“It’s because of your generous donations we are able to help our friends and neighbors,” Higgins said.

• Wednesday, Shaw’s in Augusta and Waterville;

Sarah Dyer, Andy Capwell and Mike Poulin of B98.5 will broadcast live from locations at different times each day, Higgins said.
