Maine State Police have identified the man who was killed Tuesday after being struck by a dump truck on the Maine Turnpike as James Woodward of Westbrook.

Woodward, 50, was hit by a truck just before noon while walking in a construction area near the York River Bridge.

The driver of the truck was Garry Johnson, 53, of Hollis.

Both men worked for Shaw Bros., a Gorham-based firm.

Johnson was backing up the truck to move paving material from one area of the job site to another when the accident happened, according to police.

The accident is being investigated as a workplace accident rather than a traffic crash and the investigation will be conducted by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which has jurisdiction over workplace safety issues.
