Two area incumbent Republican state senators handily kept their seats Tuesday.

Tom Saviello, of Wilton, easily beat Democrat Joanne Dunlap, of Rangeley, 11,297 to 4,551, for a third term as the Senate District 17 senator.

The district includes Vienna, Fayette, Mount Vernon, Belgrade and Franklin County.

Roger Katz, of Augusta, beat Democrat Rebecca Cornell du Houx in Senate District 15, 11,900 to 4,583.

Senate Republican Leader Michael Thibodeau defeated political newcomer Democrat Jonathan Fulford, 9,064 to 8,949, in the District 11 race. The district includes Waldo County.

In area House races, Republican Gary Hilliard, of Belgrade, defeated Democrat Richard Tracy, of Rome, 2,689 to 1,952, for Maine House District 76, representing Belgrade, Fayette, Mount Vernon, Rome, Vienna and Wayne.

In Somerset County races, Chief Deputy Sheriff Dale Lancaster beat challenger Kris McKenna, a Waterville police officer, 10,919 to 6,194, with 83 percent of the vote counted to become the new sheriff of Somerset County.

In Senate District 3, State Sen. Rodney Whittemore, R-Skowhegan, defeated Democrat Craig Heavey of Canaan, 10,090 to 4,995. The district includes Anson, Bingham, Canaan, Caratunk, Cornville, Dennistown Plantation, Embden, Highland Plantation, Jackman, Lexington Township, Madison, Mercer, Moose River, Moscow, New Portland, Norridgewock, Pittsfield, Pleasant Ridge Plantation, Rome, Skowhegan, Smithfield, Solon, Starks, The Forks Plantation, unorganized territories, West Forks Plantation

In Senate District 4, former state representative Paul Davis of Sangerville, a Republican, defeated Democrat David Ziemer of Orneville Township, 11,602 to 3,797 with 36 out of 37 precincts reporting. The district includes Piscataquis County, Athens, Brighton, Cambridge, Detroit, Harmony, Hartland, Palmyra, Ripley, St. Albans, Alton, Bradford, Charleston, Dexter, Garland and LaGrange.

Late House race results:

In District 79, Republican Timothy Theriault beat Democrat Christina Lewis Evers, both from China, 2,404 to 1,431, to replace H. David Cotts, who was restricted from running because of term limits. The district includes Albion, China, Unity Township, part of Benton.

In District 80, Democratic incumbent Lori Fowle, of Vassalboro, defeated Republican Ray Bates, of Windsor, 2,189 to 1,785. The district represents Vassalboro, part of Augusta, Windsor and Somerville.

In District 99, Republican MaryAnne Kinney, of Knox, defeated incumbent Rep. Brian Jones, D-Freedom, 2,366 to 1,507. The district includes Brooks, Burnham, Freedom, Jackson, Knox, Monroe, Thorndike, Troy, Unity.

In District 104, Republican Raymond Wallace, 65, defeated Democrat David Pearson, 2,005 to 1,320. The district includes Charleston, Dexter, Exeter, Garland and Stetson.

In District 105, Republican Joel Stetkis was elected, beating challenger Democrat Daniel Swain, 2,508 to 1,221. The district includes Cambridge, Canaan, Hartland, Palmyra, Ripley and St. Albans.

In District 106, incumbent Democrat Stanley B. Short Jr. held his seat, defeating Republican Scott Strom, 1,668 to 1,531.

In the Somerset County Judge of Probate race, Robert Washburn defeated three opponents to succeed John Alsop, who resigned to join the attorney general’s office. With 83 percent of county votes counted, results were Washburn, 8,621; John Martin, 4,110; Mark Fortier, 3,877; John Youney, 2,153.

In the race for Somerset County Registrar of Deeds, incumbent Diane Godin beat Deputy Register Laura Price, 12,874 to 5,687.
