The Republican incumbent has held on as the winner of state Senate District 11, following a Friday recount.
The recount was requested after Democrat and political newcomer Jonathan Fulford lost to Senate Republican Leader Michael Thibodeau, 9,064 to 8,949, in the Waldo County district.
Fulford said in a press release late Friday that he conceded the race following the recount by the secretary of state’s office earlier Friday in Augusta.
Thibodeau, of Winterport, was first elected as a state representative for that community and served as Republican minority leader in the Democrat-controlled Senate while a senator for District 23, now called District 11.
