WATERVILLE — A city woman was arrested on a drunken driving charge Thursday after her car swerved on Summer Street and struck a fire hydrant.

The woman, Jennifer Gilman, 40, of Waterville, was charged with operating under the influence. The accident happened at about 4:30 p.m. near the corner of Preston Street. The car was damaged, as was the fire hydrant.

“Fire hydrants typically don’t move — it didn’t,” Sgt. Lincoln Ryder said.

Gilman was not injured. She was released on $500 unsecured bond. She has a court date scheduled for Dec. 16.
