PORTLAND — The Cannon has finally been stopped.

Brandon “The Cannon” Berry suffered his first defeat as a professional boxer Saturday night, falling to 8-1 after his technical knockout loss 2:03 into the fourth and final round against Freddy Sanchez (3-0), of Worcester, Mass. Saturday night at the Portland Expo.

Sanchez used his reach to control Berry from the opening bell and continued to dominate throughout the light welterweight bout.

In that first round Berry —who was fighting his third bout in three months — appeared to injure his arm or left shoulder, which visibly affected him as the fight progressed.

Sanchez appeared to be on the verge of knockdown late in the third round, but it was not until the fourth that Berry finally went down. The West Forks native managed to climb back to his feet and continue, but the fight was ultimately stopped soon after following another flurry of punches from Sanchez.

Sanchez improved to 3-0 since turning pro earlier this year.
