BANGOR — A New York City woman who smuggled hundreds of oxycodone pills into Maine by hiding them in her body cavities has been sentenced to almost two years in prison.

Ebony Howard was sentenced Monday in federal court in Bangor to 22 months behind bars, followed by three years of probation.

The 29-year-old Howard of the Bronx, New York, had pleaded guilty in June to a charge of possession with the intent to distribute oxycodone.

Howard and an alleged accomplice were arrested in Waterville in March by local police who had received a tip about drug dealing in the area.

Investigators found 645 pills with an estimated street value of $15,000 during a body cavity search of Howard.
