HALLOWELL — A driver trying to park her car on Water Street careened into two parked motorcycles, sideswiped a pedestrian and hit a downtown pub Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Hallowell Police Chief Eric Nason said no one was injured in the accident around 1 p.m., which caused only minimal damage to granite on the outside of the building that houses the Liberal Cup, a downtown bar and restaurant.
Nason said Jacka Beckwith, 73, of Litchfield, was “trying to navigate a parking space” when she accidentally hit the gas and hit the two motorcycles, one of which hit a pedestrian and cut her leg.
Beckwith’s red Subaru station wagon went onto the sidewalk and sideswiped another pedestrian. Neither pedestrian suffered injuries severe enough to need medical treatment, Nason said.
The back ends of the two motorcycles, a red Triumph and a blue Harley-Davidson, sustained minor damage. Beckwith’s car was left with a scratched bumper, and she was unhurt.
The minor accident caused a brief commotion in Hallowell’s busy downtown, where traffic was reduced to one lane for up to 10 minutes.
