CONCORD, N.H. — New Hampshire regulators have seen an increase in consumer complaints about FairPoint Communications’ service.

The company’s 1,700-member workforce in Northern New England went on strike in mid-October.

The state Public Utilities Commission received 164 complaints in October and 217 in November, up from 36 in September. The highest number of complaints received before the strike was 71 in July.

A FairPoint spokeswoman tells the Concord Monitor the increase is partly due to storms that hit the region in October and November, and partly on vandalism and sabotage by the striking workers.

The commission released the numbers the day after the Vermont Department of Public Services asked the state’s Public Service Board to investigate FairPoint’s quality and look into customer complaints and an outage that prevented some from reaching 911.
