FAIRFIELD — A 47-year-old Fairfield man was taken to a hospital by LifeFlight helicopter Thursday night after being hit by a car while walking on Main Street.

The man, Christopher Griffiths, of Fairfield, was walking north along the side of the road and was hit by a red Subaru Outback also traveling north near the intersection of Main Street and Burrill Street, said Sgt. Paul St. Amand, of the Fairfield Police Department.

The Outback was driven by Edward Mathieu, 56, of Winslow. St. Amand said he did not anticipate any charges or citations against the driver.

The accident was reported just after 5 p.m.

Griffiths was taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer Center for Health in Waterville, and from there he was taken by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, St. Amand said.

St. Amand said police did not know Griffiths’ condition as of late Thursday. The driver was not injured.

Maine State Police and the Fairfield Fire Department also responded to the accident report.
