Friendly’s restaurant on Main Street is closed, and the property is listed for lease.
Officials from Friendly’s, based in Wilbraham, Mass., did not return requests for comment on the closed restaurant Thursday, and a sign on the door simply said it was closed and thanked patrons.
The property at 373 Main St. is listed on Waterville property records as one of five properties owned by Sanderson Development LLC.
Charles Craig, with NAI Dunham Real Estate Group in Portland, who is the listing agent for the 3,798-square-foot space, said Friendly’s had leased the space from the property owner. Friendly’s is now looking to sublease the property, he said.
He said Friendly’s closed because of lack of business. The restaurant chain, founded in 1935, has about 350 restauarants operating in 15 states in the eastern half of the country, according to its website.
No other information about the closure was available Thursday.
