MACHIAS — A pair of free throws from Dreu Johnson with 38 seconds remaining proved to be the difference as the University of Maine at Machias men’s basketball team edged UM-Augusta 91-88 Saturday afternoon.

A jump shot from Keith Chesley, of Clinton, gave the Moose a one-point lead with 44 seconds to go but the visitors could not hold their advantage in the closing seconds.

Chesley and Taylor Wilbur, of Manchester, led UMA (4-11, 3-3 Yankee Small College Conference) with 22 points each, while Brandon Rogers chipped in with 13.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UMA 76, UMM 74: Carmen Bragg poured in 30 points, six rebounds and five assists to help lead the Moose in a rout of the Clippers in Machias.

Richmond’s Jamie Plummer added 20 points and nine rebounds for UMA (9-4, 4-1 YSCC), while Forest Hills graduate Kori Coro chipped in with 16 points and seven rebounds.

MAINE 60, NORTHEASTERN 51: A 22-2 run to start the second half propelled the Black Bears to their sixth straight win Saturday in Bangor.

Sigi Koizar finished with 15 points for Maine (7-3), Liz Wood recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds and Sophie Weckstrom chipped in with 14 points.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

MAINE 1, UNION 1: Meghann Treacy stopped 20 out of the 21 shots she faced to help the Black Bears (7-10-3) earn a draw with Union Saturday at Messa Rink in Schenectady, N.Y.

Hailey Brown scored the lone goal for Maine.
