AUGUSTA — Sen. Scott Cyrway, R-Kennebec, invites local students to take part in the Senate’s honorary page program during the first session of the 127th Legislature at the State House, which convenes in January, according to a news release from Cyrway.

As an honorary page, students take part in the legislative session by distributing documents and assisting legislators on the floor of the Senate.

“I look forward to welcoming local students to the State House in the upcoming session,” said Cyrway in the release. “The honorary page program is an excellent way for students to get to know Maine’s government better and to hopefully gain enthusiasm for being active citizens.”

Parents or teachers can call the Maine Senate Majority Office at 287-1505 to sign up a student or group of students. Have the students name, grade, hometown and school name ready. In addition, have in mind a few different dates that would work well. For January and February, the Senate will largely be in session only on Tuesdays and Thursdays with more days of the week added in March, April and May.
