KEENE, N.H. — Police in New Hampshire have charged an Indiana man with hitting three striking FairPoint workers as they picketed earlier this month.

WMUR-TV reports 59-year-old Charles Hunter of Westville, Indiana, was working as a replacement for the striking employees when he struck them as he drove out of a parking lot on Dec. 2.

One picketer was evaluated at a hospital but didn’t have serious injuries. The others refused medical treatment. Hunter was charged with simple assault and will return to court in February; it could not immediately be learned if he had a lawyer.

More than 1,700 workers in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont have been on strike since Oct. 17.

The North Carolina-based company imposed its best and final offer in August after declaring an impasse.
