Farmington Police Department will temporarily double its traffic speed enforcement efforts with the help of a state Bureau of Highway Safety grant.
The $20,000 grant will pay for 144 hours of speed details in Farmington. The stepped-up enforcement will focus on identified areas with speed related crashes.
The roads in Farmington with the highest number of crashes are Wilton Road and Farmington Falls Road, which are both U.S. Route 2, and Main Street, which is Route 27. In 2014, out of the total 387 crashes reported through Dec. 15, there were 103 crashes on Wilton Road, 26 on Farmington Falls Road and 64 on Main Street.
Of the crashes reported, 51 resulted in injury. There was one fatal crash in the town, on Lucy Knowles Road, which investigators said was caused by failing to yield the right of way.
There were 378 crashes reported in 2013, with 98 on Wilton Road, 20 on Farmington Falls Road and 67 on Main Street. There were 56 accidents total that resulted in injury.
