Columbia, S.C. — Jeffrey K. Gurney graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina School of Law on May 9, 2014.

He is the son of Susan Gurney of Winslow and Paul Gurney of Waterville.

He graduated from Winslow High School in 2007 and graduated cum laude from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. in 2011 with a B.S. degree in economics and a B.A. degree in political science.

Gurney was one of three law students of the graduating class to receive the Compleat Lawyer Bronze Award. The Award is presented at commencement to three graduating law students who, through their performance in law school and their relationships with students and professors, have demonstrated their potential to be outstanding attorneys. Award recipients possess the highest standards of ethics, integrity and professionalism.

In addition, Gurney earned 18 other awards during his time in law school. On Nov. 17, 2014, he was admitted to practice law in South Carolina. He is currently employed as a law clerk to The Honorable Timothy M. Cain, United States District Court Judge for the District of South Carolina.
