Messalonskee High School’s Jake Doyon, the Pine Tree Conference Class B Player of the Year, is among the 14 high school football players selected as semifinalists for the Frank J. Gaziano Memorial Offensive and Defensive Lineman Award.

One offensive and one defensive lineman will be be awarded a $5,000 scholarship and a trophy. Four runners-up will each receive a $1,000 scholarship. The Gaziano Awards will be presented in a ceremony at the Augusta Civic Center on Jan. 24.

Joining Doyon as offensive line semifinalists are Anthony Franchetti of Mt. Blue, Zach Davis of Windham, Dominic DiMillo of Portland, Grant Smith of Falmouth, Darren Ward of Lisbon, and Benjamin Zuke of Thornton Academy.

The semifinalists for the defensive lineman award are Hunter Brown (Windham), Zordan Holmes (Cheverus), Jeremiah Israel-Copeland (Portland), Matthew Krusiec (Deering), Seamus McKaig (Orono), Shane Normandeau (Kennebunk) and Will Parkin (Leavitt).

Along with earning Player of the Year, Doyon was a first team All-PTC selection at offensive tackle and defensive line. Franchetti was first team All-PTC at center, and was a second team selection at kicker.

Each semifinalist will be interviewed by the selection committee, which is chaired by Windham High School head football coach Matt Perkins, this week. Three finalists will be named on each side of the ball. Luke Washburn of Oak Hill was the defensive lineman winner last year, while Sanford’s Jedidiah Scott won the offensive lineman award.

Started in 2010, the Gaziano Award is presented in honor of Frank J. Gaziano. The founder of National Distributors, Gaziano played college football at Holy Cross and professional football with the Boston Yanks and Washington.
