AUBURN — A man described by authorities as a transient has been sentenced to six years in prison for attacking a woman in Lewiston with a brick and stealing her purse.

Under a plea agreement, 26-year-old Jamie Brown was sentenced Thursday in Androscoggin County Superior Court to serve six years of a 10-year sentence, according to the Sun Journal.

Police say the 22-year-old woman, also a transient, met Brown at a bus station last February and they struck up a conversation.

They agreed to go to a nearby apartment building to get warm. When they sat down in the hallway, Brown tried to steal her purse. The woman fought back, and Brown grabbed a brick and struck her with it.

The victim was admitted to the hospital with a head injury.
