Two people were taken to the hospital Friday afternoon following a head-on crash on U.S. Route 201A in Norridgewock, and traffic on the road was closed for about an hour, police said.

At around 3 p.m. Dale Poulin, 32, of Winslow, was driving south on Route 201A — Bridge Street in the area of the accident — and crossed the center line, said Deputy David Cole of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

Poulin’s 2003 Chevy Cavalier hit a 2006 Dodge Caravan driven by Amber Meunier, 34, of Madison. Both drivers had injuries that were not life threatening and were taken by ambulance to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, Cole said.

A nursing supervisor at the hospital said Friday night that the hospital did not have any patients by those names.

“For some reason he veered into the northbound lane,” Cole said of Poulin. “We’re not sure why.”

The accident is under investigation and police are not sure yet whether there will be charges.

The Bridge Street bridge over the Kennebec River was closed for about an hour following the accident, Cole said. Both vehicles were destroyed.

The Norridgewock Fire Department and Anson Madison Starks Ambulance Service also responded.
