Improper disposal of smoking materials is believed to have been the cause of a garage fire at 94 Old Point Ave. in Madison Sunday night, according to Fire Chief Shawn Howard.

The fire, reported at around 11 p.m., partially damaged the garage, but most of the belongings inside were saved, Howard said. He said the garage belongs to Ryan Arnold and is not attached to a house.

There were no injuries reported, but crews had a hard time getting to the scene because of slippery roads and bad weather, Howard said.

Crews from Anson and Madison were on the scene for just under two hours.
