Both lanes of U.S. Route 202 in Monmouth were closed for more than an hour Wednesday because of a stuck tractor-trailer.

Monmouth Police Chief Kevin Mulherin said the truck got stuck around 3:15 p.m., when the driver attempted to turn around near the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Traffic was diverted onto Route 132 and Back Street while crews awaited the arrival of a heavy wrecker from Augusta to move the truck.

Mulherin urged drivers to avoid the area.

The truck was removed and the road reopened around 4:30 p.m.
